City Bloc’s Winter League 2024/25 Final: What a Night

Flashes, toe hooks, tie breaks, big energy and bigger effort – the Winter League Final on April 4th absolutely delivered.

The blocs, set by Ben, Eugenie & James, brought the challenge and the climbers Brought the psych.

Here’s how it all went down…

6PM FINALS – INTERMEDIATE & PARACLIMBER

We opened the night with the Intermediate and Para finals. Close calls, strong performances, and some creative beta from the finalists…

Women’s Intermediate

This one was tight from the get go. After Bloc 1, the top four were split by just a single attempt. Bloc 2 (that tricky orange slab) had everyone fighting for the zone. Going into Bloc 3, it was wide open – anyone could take it, or lose it. Then Becky stepped up and stuck the top. Game over. Bonus points to Zoe for unleashing a fancy toe hook the setters weren’t sure anyone would use.  Zoe proved them wrong.

 Results: 1. Becky, 2. Aimee 3. Jasmin, 4. Zoe

Paraclimber

New this year – and what a debut.

Bella and Esme were move for move, both flashing the first two climbs. The final bloc had a tough start that made all the difference. Esme fought hard, but Bella stayed composed and secured the win.

Results: 1. Bella, 2. Esme

Mens Intermediate

Another nail-biter.

Tom D, Harry, and Alex all topped Bloc 1. Then Ben blew minds by being the only one to do Bloc 2. Going into the last climb, it was anyone’s to win.

Tom D came out and nailed it – topping the bloc and sealing the top spot. Clean and classy.

Results: 1. Tom D, 2. Alex, 3. Ben, 4. Harry, 5. Tom B

8PM FINALS – ADVANCED & OPEN

The Advanced and Open finals rounded off the night. Some hard-fought climbs, strong showings, and a few standout moments. Here’s how it played out…

Open Category

Finlay’s first final and they gave it everything. The crowd was behind them on every attempt, getting closer and closer each time. No top, but a debut to be proud of.

Meanwhile, Ariadne and Oswyn were neck and neck until Ariadne flashed the last bloc and edged ahead.

Luka climbed all three with confidence and took the win – for the third time in a row. What a run.

Top spots: 1. Luka, 2. Ariadne, 3. Oswyn 4. Finlay

Advanced Women

This one was a back and forth from the start. Freya and Gemma both flashed Bloc 1. Gemma then stumbled on Bloc 2, while Freya made it look easy. But Gemma came back swinging and flashed Bloc 3.

Freya just needed the zone to take it -but couldn’t make it across The Step of Doom.

Six climbs deep and still tied. In the end, it went to countback, and Freya just got it.

Result: 1. Freya (on countback), 2. Gemma

Advanced Men

George came out flying- topped all three blocs and took a well earned win.

Oliver came heartbreakingly close on the final move of Bloc 3 but walked away with two zones and second place. James topped Bloc 2 to round out the podium. The whole category battled hard through some serious bangers.

Result: 1. George, 2. Oliver, 3. James, 4. Josh, 5. Eliot

thats a wrap

Honestly, these finals always such fun. The effort, the atmosphere, the absolute scenes -unreal.

Big love to everyone who climbed, cheered, DJ’d, set, judged or spectated with a beer in hand. These nights are what Bloc’s all about: community, challenge, and proper climbing.
Until next time,

Team Bloc x
