Summer League 26 Final.

Friday 4 September was the day all the graft culminated in a live final. 37 finalists came through from five rounds of qualifiers, and a crowd showed up to support them. Four hours of action across eight categories: Male advanced, Male intermediate, Female, Open, Para male, Para female, Male 45+ and Female 45+.

Here’s how every category finished, with the full ranking so everyone can see where they placed.

8pm FINAL

MALE 45+

This was really close with both James and Craig completing all 3 blocs. James had 3 flashes which gave him the win, whilst Matt got an extra zone which proved decisive in securing 3rd place.

FEMALE

Freya, Ann, Becky and Anna had all topped the first two blocs, with only a handful of attempts between them, so the atmosphere on bloc three was tense. Any one of them could have won it. Freya came out on top with a flash. The others got the zone but not the top, so Ann took second on fewer attempts, with Becky third.

MALE ADVANCED

The advanced male final was exciting going into the last climb. Noah was leading after topping the first bloc on his second attempt and flashing climb two. Close on his heels was Harry, who took four attempts on bloc one and also flashed bloc two. Unfortunately, Noah got pipped into third place when he couldn’t top the last climb, as Harry flashed it and Alex got it in three attempts.

PARA MALE

Monty was untouchable in Paraclimber Male, flashing all three blocs for the win. Luke took second after a strong start and a real fight on the final bloc.

MALE INTERMEDIATE

Male intermediate was another really tight round, with four people climbing all three blocs. Heading to the last boulder with any one of four competitors able to take the overall victory made it very exciting to watch. In the end, Nathan narrowly beat Seb, with just one attempt separating them. Just three attempts further back, Harry took third place.

PARA FEMALE

With Esme unable to attend, Bella took on the Paraclimber Female category solo and made it count, flashing all three blocs for a clean sweep..

FEMALE 45+

Female 45+ turned into a proper shootout and was the closest competition of the night. Ali, Vicky and Lesley all flashed all three of their climbs, so our independent adjudicator gave them a fourth climb that was slightly harder. They all flashed that as well. The same happened on a fifth climb. They were climbing out of their skin, and nobody was letting anyone else take the victory. Finally, on a sixth climb, we got some separation, and Ali walked away with the victory, pushing Vicky into second and Lesley into third.

OPEN

Open was incredibly close, with Lily and Samantha both flashing all three blocs, Lily taking the win on countback. Luka completed the podium with three tops in four attempts, while Oak also cleared all three and Cara finished with two tops.
