City Bloc’s Summer League 2024 Final: Such a Good Evening

We had an incredible night at The Bloc, full of great climbs, good vibes, awesome tunes, and smiles all around

Intermediate Categories

The evening kicked off with the intermediate male and female categories. These were the men who qualified between 11th-20th and the women who qualified between 6th-10th from the individual rounds over the summer.

Women’s Intermediate

In the women’s category, qualifying scores were so close that only a few points separated the pack. It was clear this was going to be tough to split. After the first two climbs, only a handful of attempts separated the climbers, making the final climb crucial. Another tricky slab had the competitors battling it out, with fear and hope in their eyes. Although a few came close, no one topped out, so it came down to attempts at the zone hold. Miranda secured the win, with Becky in second and Sara in third.

Men’s Intermediate

In the men’s category, it was an awesome turnout with high levels of camaraderie as the competitors cheered each other on. The first climb saw everyone reach the zone, with three climbers getting the top. Climb two was completed by everyone, setting up a tense move onto bloc three – a tricky slab that could easily shake things up. In the end, the top three mirrored the qualification results, with Reece taking the win, Tom close behind, and Ben H in third.

Advance and Open Final

After a break, we returned with the Open, Advanced Male, and Advanced Female categories.

Advanced Female

In the advanced women’s category, injuries had thinned the field, but the climbers still standing were ready to give it their all. The first climb, a technical slab, was completed by everyone after a few attempts. The second climb was a powerful overhang that saw Stef secure the only top. The final climb, a dynamic jump, didn’t faze anyone, and three climbers flashed it. Stef took first place, followed by Julia in second and Gemma in third.

Open Category

In the Open category, we had a smaller field, but the determination more than made up for it. The first climb was completed by everyone on their first attempt, setting the stage for a proper battle. By the second climb, it was still neck-and-neck until Luka secured the top just before time ran out, taking first position. On the final climb, it came down to the wire as George flashed it, but Luka narrowly claimed the win, with George in second and Oswyn completing the podium in third.

Advanced Male

The advanced men’s group faced the toughest climbs of the night, some of which seemed impossible. The first climb saw most secure the zone, with a few reaching the top. The second climb was the hardest, with a couple of climbers getting close to the final move but no tops. It came down to the last climb, where most secured the zone, but only two topped out. Over the whole competition, Nick and Mark had been neck-and-neck, with Nick just taking the win and Mark finishing a close second. Elliot followed up in third, with Nathaniel and Alex right behind.
